Joystick Module

This is a Joystick Module very similar to the ‘analog’ joysticks on PS2 (PlayStation 2) controllers. Directional movements are simply two potentiometers – one for each axis. Pots are ~10k each. This joystick also has a select button that is actuated when the joystick is press down.

With the help of this Joystick Module, you can measure position coordinates on the X and Y axis by moving the “hat”. It also contains a switch that is press-able by pushing the “hat” down. Similar to the XBOX controller.

The X and Y axes are two 10k potentiometers which control 2D movement by generating analog signals. When the module is in working mode, it will output two analog values, representing two directions. This module uses the 5V power supply, analog value will increase with joystick movement and will go up till maximum 5V; the value will decrease when the joystick is moved in other direction till 0V.

HTC Lux Meter
A light meter or a lux meter is a device used to measure luminance flux per unit area. In other words, it is a device used to measure the amount of light prevailing in a specific area. Usually this is used as a measure of the intensity, as perceived by the human eye. Illuminanace is a measure of how much luminous flux is spread over a given area or simply put, the amount of visible light present at a specific place. Previously analogue meters were used to measure amount of luminous flux. These meters used to work on the radiometric technology. One of the major disadvantage with these analogue meters was that the measurements were usually not accurate therefore the need of digital flux meters surfaced. HTC’s LX-101A is a premium range of digital lux meters. Equipped with latest technology, these meters are capable of picking even the slightest emission of light flux from any surface.

Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04

This is an ultrasonic sound based non-contact range finder. The device send sonar burst of ultrasonic sound waves from the transmitter end, ultrasonic sound is sound waves of frequency more than 20 KHz (not audible to human ears). Dolphins and bats use this principle to detect obstacle in front of them. The receiver end of the sensor detects received deflected sound signal from any obstacle or wall, in this way one can use the time taken by the sensor in sending and receiving the sound signals for the calculation of the distance of the wall or obstacle from the sensor. The sensor has 4 pins to be used with any microcontroller board. The pin descriptions are as follows: Trigger, Echo, Vcc, Gnd.  The sensor works at DC 5 volt and when a pulse of few microseconds are send to the trigger pin, the sensor sends burst of eight cycles of 40KHz ultrasonic sound waves. The sensor can detect object as close as 2 cm and maximum upto 400 cm. The accuracy of the sensor could be as possible as 3mm.

The sensor finds application in mostly range finder, depth calculation, vehicle parking systems and obstacle navigation robots.

8 IR Sensor Array

This is an infrared based sensor array which can be used in advanced line following and grid navigation robots. The array has 8 individual sensors placed next to each other. Each sensor has its own digital and analog output and can sense the presence of a line and indicate it with a 5V logic output. On reading the digital state of the eight sensors, the user can not only detect the line but also get to know how far the centre of the robot is from the line. When all sensors sense the line, the robot is on an intersection.
